A new perspective of chinese music technology and culture industry

Abstract

With the trans-industry integration of music and technology, the music and culture industry in China has demonstrated a good trend of development under the influence of Internet, AI (artificial intelligence), big data and other scientific and technological means. It has had a revolutionary and subversive impact on the creation, performance and appreciation of music, as well as the protection and management of musical performance market and digital music copyright. Meanwhile, this paper briefly discusses the negative impacts of the trans-industry integration of music and technology, and puts forward personal suggestions and points of view on the music and culture industry in the future.

Introduction

Driven by the strategy for building up the strength of the nation through culture development, the current development of culture industry in China has entered a new era. With the technology and creativity oriented innovation-driven model, the culture industry has begun to move forward with the emphasis of knowledge and service, which becomes a new trend of the integration of culture and technology.

The Sixteenth Column of Chapter Seven of the “National Cultural Reform Outline of the `13th Five- Year Plan' Period” mentions: to promote the integrated development of cultural creativity with other industries, and transform resource advantages comprehensively into industrial and market advantages. Nowadays, technologies including block chain technology, big data cloud storage and AI (artificial intelligence) have gradually penetrated into every link of the music and culture industry. And the future direction to continuously enlarge the scale of music industry is still the deep development of high-quality music content with and music industry in the industrial context of integration, which necessarily puts forward a series of new requirements for the development of music and culture industry in China.

Revolution of music data management technology

Big data cloud computing. It is necessary to adopt a distributed architecture for the numerous network resources and realize the distributed processing of resources through cloud computing to quickly obtain valuable information. Nowadays, in order to achieve a more humanized service, based on factors like the consumers' favorite artists, works, lyrics, melody, rhythm and payment, the online music platforms “track and locate” the music works that the audience prefer so as to recommend customer with targeted contents.

The block chain is a string of data blocks generated by correlation though cryptographic methods. It is a new application mode of computer technology involving distributed data storage, point-to- point transmission, consensus mechanism, and encryption algorithm. The key innovation of block chain technology lies in its allowance for participants to transfer assets through internet instead of a concentrated third party. The technology has attracted a great attention in the markets of finance, government, public management, and culture industry. Its application in the music streaming media platforms enables the achievement of an efficient, convenient, and free music data management. Supported by this technology, users can also publish content (UGC) and realize investment dividends on the music platform. With such a wholly new data management mode, on one other, it greatly mobilizes the enthusiasm of users, while on the other hand, it realizes the subversion of the traditional performance industry in terms of aspects such as copyright transaction, profit mode and privacy protection, forcing the revolution of the traditional digital music management mode[1].

The intelligence orientation in the creation and performance of music works Hegel said: "Architecture is frozen music, music is solidified architecture." This sentence is also demonstrated in the field of artificial intelligence composition, transforming the horizontal and vertical texture “architecture” of music into a sound structure and transforming a three-dimensional visual space into a multidimensional auditory space. The intermediate conversion system is in fact the music data generated by the combination of music theories and the sample information with the application of technical algorithm. The algorithms selected for the artificial intelligence composition technology are generally the big data and EMI artificial intelligence composition technology.

Big data artificial intelligence composition is able to take the advantage of large quantities of data resources and combine them certain algorithms to simulate and create music in the styles of composers who lived hundreds of years ago. First, the database will filter the data according to your theme, and then with these data, the lyrics creation can be realized, which further implement the melody creation and the album cover production. The whole process is processed by big data with the use of a particular algorithm.

In fact, David Kopp tried in 1980 to use machines to solve the obstacles of the composers in the process of creation. After the composer decomposes a complete work through computer programs, similarities will be found for categorization and then a complete musical work can be created according to the written program. This has become the EMI artificial intelligence composition technology which is the predecessor of AI composition.

Nowadays, artificial intelligence can collect sample information according to a song, a piece of text, a picture or even an immature idea of the composer, and create a mature music work through the artificial intelligence composition system. For example, after "Microsoft Xiaobing" learns more than 10 million lines of lyrics, it can conduct songs creation according to the pictures given by the staff. "AI Beijing" is a song created by "Xiaobing" based on pictures of famous scenic spots in Beijing. Even more, "Xiaobing" can sing as well, and the singing voice is close to human voices with an extreme high distinctiveness voice which is extremely easy to recognize.

Not only in creation, artificial intelligence functions excellent in the performance as well that piano playing robots, dancing robots, and virtual actors have successively appeared on the stage. For example, in the "First Class of the Semester" of CCTV 1, the Italian robot TEO with 53 "finger" played the same piano work "Flight of the Bumble-bee" in the battle session with human beings and finally won the battle by 2 seconds advantage in speed. Besides, in September 2017, the YuMi robot firstly served as an orchestra conductor at the Italian Pisa Theatre. In the future, artificial intelligence will play an increasingly important role in the creation and performance links. In the past, the human acts as a machine while now the machine acts as a real human, realizing the interaction between digital and human. Although it seems that artificial intelligence cannot change the traditional music management mode in the short term, its influence on music production, music brokerage, music performance and music propagation in the performing arts industry can never be underestimated[2].

The diversification of strategic methods in the creative thinking mode

In recent years, the level of China's performing arts industry has continuously improved, gradually showing a trend of internationalization, industrialization, and marketization. In particular, with the publication of national infrastructure investment and related culture and tourism policies, most large real estate developers turned to invest in the culture industry. The integration trend of culture and tourism presents to be obvious. The number of performing arts venues such as those for large-scale urban music lighting shows, music festivals, music towns, and large-scale live performances has been increasing year by year. In order to attract audiences, the number of actors in performances tends to be over hundreds and the performance venue is not limited to a single stage. In the art performing area, "one step with one scenario, and one step with one stage" has become a new mode of performance. At the same time, in order to prolong the stay of consumers, enhancing the night show performances has become the major characteristic of live performance, and the management method of creative thinking has become the core element of the development of urban culture industry.

In order to speed up industry upgrading and structure adjustment, it is a good strategic means to change the past city image as roaring machines and foggy air by creative industries. For example, some old factories are refurbished into music industry parks. The dilapidation, the sense of ages, and the spaciousness have become the labels of these art centers. “Chengdu Eastern Music Park”, Guiyang 1958 Cultural Innovation Park, Shanghai Tonglefang, etc. are all industry parks based on music, culture, leisure and creativity, revitalizing a bound of old factories and allowing them to obtain vitality in the new era. Particularly, the development of science and technology provides more possibilities for planners to demonstrate the creative thinking in visual and auditory aspects.

In visual aspect, projectors with tens of thousands of lumen and thousands of LED lights are involved, using 4-axis image stacking technology and incorporating laser and wall projection to achieve a wholly new visual feast through the 3D naked eye technology. Representative music lighting shows include: China Shenzhen music lighting show "I Love You China", China Shanghai Bund 5D music lighting show, China Jiangxi Nanchang One River with two sides music lighting show, etc.. In auditory aspect, the python sound effect in China Jiangxi "Dreams seeking *Longhu Mountain", and the kv2 vhd sound system used in "Langtaosha * Beidaihe" ensure the high- qualified output of outdoor sound, and the sound pressure also satisfies the needs of sound reinforcement at the site.

Music consuming market upgrading--the humanization of management of music copyright

Since the first copyright law of China and the revised draft of the “Copyright Law” in 2012, the music copyright environment of China has gradually improved, and online digital music appears to grow rapidly, which does not only stimulates the production of high qualified original content, but also promotes the optimization and upgrading of China's music consumption market. In the past, faced with problems including the rampant of online pirated music and the difficulty in copyright settlement, the content suppliers of music works (sound associations, genuine record companies, lyrics and songs creators and other copyright owners) kept complained that they had to spend a lot of time and energy in the management of music copyright which does not only affect the creator's creation passion and damage the legitimate rights and interests of copyright owners, but also is not beneficial for the healthy development of the digital music market[3][4].

With the publish of the “Notice on Forcing Online Music Service Suppliers to Stop Unauthorized Spreading of Music Works” by the National Copyright Administration of China in 2015, major online music manufacturers have begun to purchase music copyrights and remove unauthorized music works. The music industry chain began to be restructured, transforming the previous management authorization method of music copyright (the copyright cooperation of original musicians and platforms is generally composed of two modes: lyrics and songs authorization and transfer) gradually into a simple and convenient "one-stop" authorization as the creator just need to entrust the work to a concentrated copyright management organization of music copyright. It can not only help the client to avoid the risk of infringement of the work, but also save a lot of time and efforts of the user. digital performance music

Conclusion

“Although scientific technology and art are separated, they will be integrated in the future.” Flaubert, the French literati in the 18th century, has ever said that, “Art will be more scientific and science will be more artistic. The two separated at the foot of the mountain and someday they will finally meet at the top.”At present, the integration degree of the science and technology and the music and culture industry, the cultural soft power and the competitiveness of China have a huge gap with the culturally powerful countries which have an international influence. On one hand, the country should enhance the support in music and culture industry and the science and technology filed and improve the management level of culture and technology, promoting the integration of music industry and technology through legislation and mechanism innovation. On the other hand, it is necessary to continuously cultivate innovative culture enterprises, actively guide the integration of advanced technology in China and abroad with the domestic music and culture industry, and keep to explore domestic and international markets.

Finally, the essence of the culture innovation industry lies in its spirit and thus the reconstruction of the spiritual relationship between human and society as well as human and nature is the key. It does not mean to discompose the position and function of humans in the society. Instead, it will promote the progress of the social living way and working way of humans. We should adhere to the attitude of human orientation, fairness, harmony and sustainable development values to understand correctly the integration of art and scientific technology.
