Animals in aviation
Almost all airports attempt to make their environment less attractive to animals. Although today there are many means of combating animal, they are not enough. All the same airports and runways attract birds and other animals, as they offer wide open spaces with a minimum of buildings around. If animals are not kept away from runways, then the risk that they will interfere with an aircraft on take-off or landing is high, and this can have very serious consequences.
First I'd like to talk about the birds. So, in aviation bird strikes refer to incidents in which aircraft collide with birds. The reason is that airplanes travel so fast that birds are unable to see them in time and avoid them. While bird strike can occur at any time, even while cruising at high altitudes, in the vast majority of cases they occur when airplanes are flying at less than 3000 ft as this is where most birds are to be found. For large passenger airliners the danger is greatest just after take-off or when coming in the land. There are other cases with birds. So, the engine ingestion is that of a bird being sucked into one or more of the engines. This significantly affects the airplane's performance or can even cause it to crash. When it's a case of multiple strike (ingestion of a flock of birds), these risks are increase. airport animal aviation
Now a few words about the protection of those and who it is carried out.
Primarily there are airports. So, airports often emit high frequency sounds to frighten the bird away. But measures such as this can provide short-term solution. Constant vigilance is required on the part of airport personnel and pilots who are airborne. They can alert controllers whenever they spot flocks of birds. Aircraft manufacturers also have an important role to play and they try to minimize the damage that birds might cause to the engine or other parts of the aircraft.
Finally I want to note, that thanks to quick-thinking pilots and sound equipment, hundreds of potential disasters have been averted. Nevertheless, more than 221 people have been killed as a direct result of bird strikes worldwide since 1988, pointing to the need to continue to seek solutions to the problem of bird strikes. In my opinion this is one of the most important problem of modern aviation.
