Abstract. This article is devoted to the study of the semantics of Russian equivalents of biblical expressions from the perspective of the Chinese language tradition. Since Christianity appeared relatively recently in China, there are much less biblical expressions in Chinese, unlike Russian language. In addition, many Russian biblical expressions with respect to the Chinese language are equivalent. In the work, one of the most significant biblical expressions is studied, namely biblical expressions based on statements from the Gospels of Jesus Christ for the teaching of the apostles. Most of these nonequivalent biblical expressions in the Chinese language are expressed in the form of ordinary utterances, in a nephrasiological manner. Some of them sound unusually from the standpoint of the Chinese language tradition. Others, although at first glance, are understandable from the point of view of content, but in fact, are misunderstood when their application is not taken into account in terms of subtext, implication and context. The absence of such biblical expressions in the Chinese language confirms the need to study them from the standpoint of the Chinese linguistic culture.
