Legal linguistics in Ukraine has deep roots dating back to ancient Slavonian times. It was during that period that the first written legal acts began to appear, requiring precise definition and interpretation of legal terms. The Middle Ages marked an era of active development in jurisprudence and legal terminology, which was reflected in the documents and literature of that time.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Ukrainian legal linguistics experienced the influence of changes in the political and socio-cultural environment. Particularly, after gaining independence in 1991, the Ukrainian language was officially recognized as a national and one of the state languages. This facilitated active development of legal terminology and standardization of legal language, but it led to challenges in the interpretation of terms in different legal domains.

The fragmentation of legal linguistics terminology in Ukraine is a serious problem that complicates the understanding and perception of legal texts. The main aspects of this issue and possible solutions include:

Diversity of terms in legal domains:

-Different legal domains may use their own terminology unique to each domain, hindering mutual understanding and information exchange among legal professionals. The recommendation involves unification and harmonization of terminology across different legal domains.

Influence of international standards and external influences:

-Ukraine actively integrates into international legal structures, leading to the use and adaptation of international terminology. However, at times, this can result in duplication and confusion in terminology. It is important to ensure harmonization with international standards and adaptation to national needs.

Inconsistency among legislative acts:

-Different laws and normative legal acts may use terms with varying definitions or meanings. This leads to inconsistencies and uncertainty in the interpretation of terms. A systematic review of terminology in legislation is necessary, ensuring its consolidation and consistency.

Lack of a centralized terminology control body:

-Ukraine needs a centralized body responsible for standardizing and unifying legal terminology. This body should promote cooperation among all legal domains and ensure mutual understanding and unity of terminology.

Enhancement of linguistic culture and skills of lawyers:

-It is important to focus on the training of legal professionals regarding the use and understanding of legal terminology. Educational programs should provide specialized courses on legal linguistics and terminology.

Promotion of academic research:

-Supporting scientific research in the field of legal linguistics will contribute to the development of new terms and their harmonization in accordance with the norms and needs of modern society.

Creation of electronic databases:

-Developing centralized electronic databases with standardized terminology and explanations will help ensure accessibility and use of terminology by professionals. linguistic termsnology legislative

Active participation in international projects:

-Ukraine's participation in joint international projects aimed at standardizing and harmonizing terminology will contribute to its adaptation to international standards.

Collaboration with language experts:

-Involving language experts and linguists in the review and development of terminology is important to ensure linguistic accuracy and clarity.

These measures will contribute to the unification and standardization of legal linguistics terminology in Ukraine, promoting better mutual understanding and effective communication in the legal sphere.

This analysis emphasizes the deep roots of legal linguistics in Ukraine dating back to ancient times and its gradual development throughout history.

It is noted that the modern stage of development has been influenced by changes in the political and socio-cultural context, with particular attention to the obstacles in the form of terminology fragmentation and recommendations to overcome them.

Key issues include discrepancies in terminology among legal domains, the influence of international standards, inconsistency in legislative acts, and the absence of centralized terminology control. To address these challenges, a wide range of measures is proposed, including terminology unification, harmonization with international standards, systematic revision of legislation, creation of centralized databases, and enhancing the linguistic culture of lawyers.

These proposals underscore the importance of collaboration between legal and linguistic experts to enhance the quality of legal communication in Ukraine and contribute to its integration into the international context.
