1) T. starts the lesson by greeting the Ss.

T. writes up some sentence starters on the board (When I was a baby I was..., On my last birthday I was..., When I was young my sister was... At school I was...,

My teachers were... When I got my first job I was...).

2) T. writes up endings for the sentences that are true for her (When I was a baby I was very fat. On my last birthday I was 32 years old).
3) T. erases the endings and sees if students can remember them.
4) T. works with one student in front of the class, discussing possible true endings for them and writing them up (When I was a baby I was very noisy. On my last birthday I was 12 years old. When I was young my sister was very annoying).
5) T. asks the Ss to tell each other and write true sentences about themselves, using the sentence starters.

T. writes ten phrases naming different locations on the board {at the cinema, in the bath, at the shops, on the hill, in McDonaldsR) and writes up this sample dialogue:

A: I phoned a t... o'clock - no answer. Where were you? (NB stress on were).

B: I was...

T. makes pairs. T. asks the Ss to act out the dialogue giving different explanations for different times of the day (I was in the bath! I was at McDonaldsR).
