We live in a changeable world where it's very difficult to keep up with new ideas and inventions. Our life becomes more comfortable and more interesting. We get to know about the smallest details of a child's birth and space, computers have become the part of everyday life. Many environmental pollution problems are the result of the rapid advances in technology that have been made since the end of World War II.

Today the greatest problem for the humanity is pollution. Pollution is the contamination of the environment including air, water and land with undesirable amounts of material and energy. Modern man abuses nature and disfigures the landscape creating landfills everywhere - in fields, in forests, in oceans and even in the space. It's no wonder why new diseases appear every year and mutation on different levels is progressing. We eat, drink and breathe what we dump on the ground and emit into the atmosphere.

There are several kinds of environmental pollution. They include air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, and pollution caused by solid wastes, noise, and radiation. It's difficult to say what of them is the worst as all parts of the environment are closely related to one another.

Air pollution turns clear air into hazy, smelly air that harms health, kills plants, animals and damages property. Most air pollution results from combustion processes. Uncontrolled emissions of harmful substances and dust pollute everything around us. Very often they are the reason of acid rains which fall miles away from the plants and poison earth and water. Studies have shown that particulates burn eyes and irritate lungs, they cause asthma, bronchitis, cancer and emphysema. Besides, air pollution affects climate intensifying greenhouse effect and air pollutants damage the ozone layer.

Water pollution is a serious problem in the today's world. If this fact ignores, in future we'll have no water to drink. The Earth's surface is covered by 71% water, so water is very essential for our lives because we can survive only a few days without water. - Water is essential to life on earth. We need water to grow food, keep clean, provide power, control fire, and last but not least, we need it to stay alive. Water Pollution occurs when materials are released into the water, contaminating the quality of it for other users. The consequences of water pollution are very dangerous. Birds and mammals become coated with oil, human beings become poisoned with water. The result of this pollution is a variety of waterborne diseases, including cholera, hepatitis, typhoid and dysentery.

Here are some steps to follow to make water cleaner and safer:

1. If you use chemicals and pesticides for your gardens, be mindful not to overuse pesticides. This will reduce runoffs of the chemical into nearby water sources.

2. If you live close to a water body, try to plant lots of trees and flowers around your home, so that when it rains, chemicals from your home does not easily drain into the water.

3. When washing dishes by hand, don't let the water run while rinsing. Fill one sink with wash water and the other with rinse water.

4. Run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full.

5. Water your lawn and garden in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler to minimize evaporation.

6. Wash your fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap.

7. Do not throw chemicals, oils, paints and medicines down the sink drain, or the toilet.

Often trying to get more and quicker, man destroys what has been created for centuries. Soil pollution is also very dangerous. Soil pollution damages the thin layer of fertile soil that covers much of the earth's land and is essential for growing food. Natural processes took thousands of years to form the soil that supports crops. People use fertilizes and pesticides to grow more and better crops. Soil pollution causes toxic dust, which can lead to poisoning. It results in imbalance in fauna and flora.

Solid wastes are probably the most visible form of pollution. Some solid wastes need hundreds or even thousands of years to decay. We all know the terrible consequences of Chernobyl's catastrophe. This catastrophe forced people to think over nuclear problems and possible consequences. The Chernobyl disaster took away lives of thousands of people who have lived and worked there. Dozens more got serious radiation sickness; some of these people later died.

Fortunately we still have some time to make our planet safer and cleaner for our future generations. First thing to do is to start from yourself.

Being environmentally friendly means having a lifestyle that is better for the environment. It's all about making small steps towards our mother earth to make this planet a better place for us and future generations. People confess that they pollute the environment, but they continue to build factories which emit tons of harmful chemicals. water environmental protection

We have a green light to solve environmental problems.

1. Conserve Water and Electricity: turning off lights, water when it is not in use, using maximum daylight, installing energy efficient windows, CFL (compact fluorescent lamp), use shower instead of bath, use rain water for watering gardens.

2. Plant More Trees, because they are lungs of our planet. Those who have green fingers are to plant green plant.

3. Drive Less, Walk More, which is better for our health.

4. Buy Recycled Products: Always look out for recycling symbol 

5. The government has install purification equipment to reduce the air pollution index.

6. Prevent Littering: Litter can originate from construction and demolition sites.

7. Educate other people to make them aware of the environmental problem. To organize different activities, where people gather together and clean the forests, beaches, streets, plant trees and flowers. There is a special green movement which calls for nature protection. Of course, it's not obligatory to be a member of Greenpeace to fight pollution. You can preserve woodlands cleaning the picnic site after having a picnic, plant “green belts” or trees and plants near your house, throw litter, garbage and junk in special garbage cans, protect wildlife and what not.
