Dubrovska A. S. Discourse of the irrational in the novels by V. Vynnychenko. - Тhe Manuscript.

Mechanisms for the artistic discourse realization of the irrational, the mental and the mystical are analyzed in the dissertation. The appeal to the motive of illness and abnormality, while researching mental irrational functioning, is the stylistic device, which enables the Ukrainian modernist-writer to create the world of absurdity designated by the „ailment of discordizm”.

The analysis of the mental irrational is based upon the characters' inner world demonstration that is the investigation of the constructive and destructive instincts impact on the behavior of disharmonious reflex persons. Mostly novels depict incomplete split images that, owing to their illusory desire for happiness, spiritual harmony, by using the virtue worship, material enrichment, by satisfying basic needs balance between the life instincts (such as self - preservation, family continuation) and death instincts (such as aggression, madness, suicide). Internal disharmony provokes such mental states as „bumba”, „nothing-to-feel”, „burning”, „violence”, „weakness”, „bluish dreams”, „dark muddiness”, „sadness-frog”, „a hole”, etc.

The behavior of certain characters is determined by Nietzsche's ideas of „the super human” which is the basis for certain painful fixed-ideas such as that of „flea-God”, of society reformation, of power, of selectedness, even of the participation of the infernal forces (self-association with the demonic being - Mephistopheles). These fixed-ideas „program” the behavior of Nietzschian characters in society.

Space which is characterized by the negative connotations of the gloomy, dark, „alien”, hostile to the human being world, by the duality of the real and the phantasmagoric, the illusory has become an indirect manifestation of the mental irrational. The dissertation treats this idea from the mythological, symbolical and psychological points of view. Accordingly, as the transformation of the myth about „the cultural capital”, the „friend-or-foe” opposition , the „East-or-West” opposition, including the local components of „topos” (city) as „web”; „anthill”; „homelessness” and „neglect” as the manifestation of „a different reality”. The motives of theatricality, masquerade, antinomies of light and meteorology are also investigated.

The irrational discourse in novels is also embodied in a triad „House” - „Antihouse” - „homelessness” which is connected to the „House” loss of the sacral and its transformation into „alien”, irrational, even inferno space - „pseudo-house” or „Antihouse” which cardinally changes the essence of the person. Accordingly, the oppositions „life” / „death”, „eternal” / „passing”, „beauty” / „ugliness”, „friend-or-foe” as the manifestations of „the other reality” are analyzed. Features of the „House” influence (positive or negative) on the formation of the outlook and the behavioral model of the person are exposed. The motives of the mask, the metamorphosis, the duality of the inferno spaces are singled out.

Mystical irrational in V. Vynnychenko's novels is artistically embodied in two planes: the „devil” discourse and the inferno space of „Antihouse”. The writer's literary „devil” is interpreted by us as the embodiment of the second demonic essence of Jakov Mihajljuk („The Notes Snub-nosed Mephistopheles”), professor Zhozef Matur („Leprozorij”), partly as „Kolechka” by Belugin („Say the Word, Stalin!”) and is read in the context of the European „devil” discourse from the end of the ХІХ th. - to the beginning of the XX th. century („incarnated” Satana-Wandergud („Satan's Diary” by L. Andrееva), „Petty Devil” by F. Sologub same novel, „the last person” by Eric Falk („Homo sapіens” by S. Pschybyschevskiy)).

The supervision of the „House” transformation as the sacral center of the Family in chthonic space is submitted as the study of characters' inner world influence on the dynamics of such a transformation process.

Stylistic devices of the characters' inner world embodiment in V. Vynnychenko's novels became dynamic (psychological) portraits, extensive or represented as a key portrait detail (more often eyes, lips, the nose), corresponding color scale, colorless or, on the contrary, vulgarly bright; speech (monologue - confessions, mainly internal), hyperemotional or by contrast almost silent; characteristics (author's, self-characteristics) of behaviour, of the world; the stream of consciousness as conventional border between the real and the unreal, „day time” imaginations, reflectivity.
