Data gathering process

The process of gathering the data may be tracked on the example of the game “Dark Souls III”. The first thing to do is to find the game in the search on the Steam platform. Each game has its own page with all the necessary information about the game such as developer, screenshots or trailers, description, reviews and the opportunity to buy a game.

On that page all the needed information is delineated in the red rectangules. The first thing to gather is the developer and the year of release. In the case of the example these are FromSoftware, Inc and 2016 respectively. Then, the number of reviews and the percentage of positive reviews remains the second thing to take a look at (71 716 reviews, 90%).

Moving on, for textual data analysis the game description is required. The description might contain a variety of information from the plot and character description to a list of awards won by the game.

The second part of the analysis requires the collection of reviews. In order to create the most unbiased and full picture of the situation, the reviews are selected on the basis of its helpfulness. The helpfulness of the review is defined in accordance to the number people who evaluated the review as helpful which can be seen in the left upper corner. They also are automatically arranged in order of the helpfulness. So, first five most helpful reviews are chosen on that basis.
