Chapter 5. Conclusion and recommendation
5.1 Conclusion
Intimate partner violence is a widespread and growing social problem in Bangladesh. Women face different forms of violence such as physical, sexual, economic and psychological abuse due to the dominative attitude of husband, societal gender norms and patriarchal system. As a result, physical/ sexual injury, psychological problems, financial loses, divorce or broken marital relationship, the tendency to homicides or suicide is increasing in the family. In order to research outcomes, we found that some socio-demographic factors such as age, education, household type, and health have a strong negative association with internally men's attitude towards IPV (dependent variables) in both slums and in- slum areas. In addition, religion affects positively men's attitude for some reasons and also negatively influence on men attitudes for another reason of IPV. It also reveals that men who are living in the slum are more favor IPV compared to men living non-slum area. Other factors such as alcohol consumption or drug use, STD disease, decision- making for health care, and acceptance that married women working if the husband earns not enough money have a positive association with men's attitudes towards IPV. However, decision-making for a family visit and acceptance about married women working if a husband earns enough money have a negative association with men's attitude towards IPV. More results have found statistically significant among internally migrated men's attitude towards IPV than internally not migrated men's attitude. Factors have a more negative association with internally migrated men's attitude towards IPV compared to internally not migrated men's attitude.
